Sodium Distribution on the Moon

چکیده
Abstract The Moon is significantly depleted in volatile elements when compared to Earth, an observation that has resulted various formation scenarios leading the loss of volatiles. Sodium a moderately element lithophile, which can be utilized as tracer history planetary bodies. It also well observed exosphere several bodies our solar system and exoplanetary systems. But lunar surface sodium abundances have so far been measured only samples brought back Earth. We report on results from first effort provide global-scale measurement using X-ray fluorescent spectra Chandrayaan-2. A global average 1.33 ± 0.03 wt% derived here higher than previously known. Trends abundance indicate long-lived adsorbate component could explain reported here, would act reservoir sustains exosphere.

The spatial distribution of polar hydrogen deposits on the Moon
A new analysis of the Lunar Prospector epithermal neutron data is presented, providing an improved map of the distribution of hydrogen near to the lunar poles. This is achieved using a specially developed pixon image reconstruction algorithm to deconvolve the instrumental response of the Lunar Prospector’s neutron spectrometer from the observed data, while simultaneously suppressing the statist...
متن کاملWater on the surface of the Moon as seen by the Moon Mineralogy Mapper: Distribution, abundance, and origins
A new thermal correction model and experimentally validated relationships between absorption strength and water content have been used to construct the first global quantitative maps of lunar surface water derived from the Moon Mineralogy Mapper near-infrared reflectance data. We find that OH abundance increases as a function of latitude, approaching values of ~500 to 750 parts per million (ppm...
متن کاملLaboratory studies on the sputtering contribution to the sodium atmospheres of Mercury and the Moon
To ascertain the importance of sputtering by solar wind ions on the formation of a sodium exosphere around Mercury and the Moon, we have irradiated with 4 keV He ions, the Na bearing tectosilicates: albite, labradorite, and anorthoclase, as well as adsorbed Na layers deposited on albite and on olivine (a neosilicate that does not contain Na). Sodium at the surface and near surface (<40 Å) was q...

How effective, efficient and natural human-robot interaction can be depends for an important part on how meaning can be shared and construed between a human and a robot. The paper presents an initial investigation in the architectural functions that appear to underly embodied, situated understanding in joint action and interaction. The identified functions are combined into a concept system arc...
متن کاملDistribution of Hydrogen at the Surface of the Moon
Introduction: We now have information from the fully reduced Lunar Prospector Neutron Spectrometers. Interpretation of these data yields distributions of rare earth elements (REE) Sm and Gd [1], major oxides and hydrogen on the Moon. Once both contributions of REE and major oxides are accounted for, we can construct the first global map of hydrogen implanted within the first 2 meters of the lun...
